History of Prashar lake:
The temple was built in the 13th century by Raja Bank Sen in Mandi and he named the river as Parashar river because saint Parashar meditated there. This retrieves the Himachal architecture and holds the great culturence significance.
But there are some myths as local legends say that the river was created by Pandavas when they were returning from the war of Kurukshetra as shown in Mahabharata.
The weather on Prashar lake is sometimes unpredictable as the temperature hovers around 21 degree celsius and the minimum is 8 degree celsius. So it’s better to be fully prepared before going for Prashar lake trek. Wear extra woolen clothes even during summers as it is chilly there in the Himalayan regions.
There are two ways to reach to the trekking point of Prashar lake-
- Mandi- Bijani- Kamand- Baggi- Prashar lake covering 50 kms
- Kullu- Bhuntar- Bajaura- Shayari- Baggi- Prashar lake covering 65 kms
Both routes take equal time to reach the starting point of Baggi so it is upon your convenience which way to choose.
Day 01- Delhi to Mandi
You have to first reach Mandi by taking an overnight bus from Delhi or by car whatever way you wish to and then explore Mandi and enjoy the Himalayan life.
Day 02- Mandi to Baggi to Prashar lake
Next day you have to take a bus at 8 AM from Mandi bus stand to reach Baggi village. If you wish to eat there are a few cafes there where you can full your appetite. After reaching Baggi village and start your trek journey from there onwards. Don’t forget to full up your water bottles. From this you will cover a distance of 7 kms which will take around 4-5 hours to reach. And here you are, enjoy the beautiful scenic view of Prashar lake which you are most awaiting for. And then enjoy the view at night gazing at the stars and galaxies shining like a diamond in the sky.
Day 03- Explore Prashar
If you want to watch the sunrise that comes from the mountains then you have to wake up early. So enjoy the mesmerizing view of sun rays coming back to you.
The sight of the lake comprises three ranges that are Pir Panjal range to Dhauladhar range and the Lahaul and Spiti range. And this is not the end if you want more adventure than Sukhasar lake is waiting for you. Sukhasar lake is only 2 kms away from Prashar lake. Trust me it would be worth going there as you will see the uniqueness of nature in its own ways. If you want to explore the old temples of Prashar then you can do so after returning towards the campsite. Unravel the mythological histories of ancient times that will enlighten your knowledge.
Day 04- Prashar to Mandi to Delhi
So you will not be returning empty. You will take yourself thousands of memories with you. You have to return towards Baggi village early morning and then to Mandi from where you had started your journey.
